Tips On Purchasing The Right Forklift Equipment

Purchasing trucks and heavy construction equipment may be a difficult task unless you are a well informed buyer. It’s very easy to over spend and purchase a forklift that has characteristics you will never get to use. Today’s top 5 forklift manufacturers are the Toyota Industries Corporation, KION Group, Jungheinrich, NACCO Industries, Inc. and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, so chances are you will be in the market for one of their products. Here is a look at forklift prices, characteristics and design types that should help you get a clear idea of what kind of forklift will work best for you:

There are several types of industrial machines and forklifts, generally categorized under the following machine types:

• Hand pallet truck
• Walkie low lift truck
• Rider low lift truck
• Towing tractor
• Walkie stacker
• Rider stacker
• Reach truck
• Electric counterbalanced truck
• IC counterbalanced truck
• Telescopic handler
• Slip Sheet machine
• Walkie Order Picking truck
• Rider Order Picking truck
• Very narrow aisle truck

Once you have decide on the general category into which your desired forklift is found, make sure to shop around before making a purchase. Try to visit a minimum of two or three retailers to be able to get good price comparisons. Also make sure to ask what the full cost will be for the forklift. For example, an internal combustion forklift may start at a price of around $15,000, but depending on what accessories you choose, warranty levels and manufacturer’s brand you can end up paying a lot more than that. Electric forklifts are usually sold in the $20,000 price range, however, you will need to spend a few thousand dollars extra on batteries and battery chargers. If you need a heavy duty forklift - over 35,000 lb – you can expect prices to be in the $100,000 range.

New forklifts too expensive? Try a used one :
A used 5,000 pound forklifts can be bought for about $10,000, more if it is in excellent condition. Of course, the risks of purchasing used forklift equipments are also proportionally higher. Make sure to determine your hourly operating costs before purchasing a used forklift. If you plan to use the forklift on a daily basis for 4-6 hours, you may loose more money due to maintenance and breakdowns than if you bought it new. Other elements you should look at when determining the hourly operating costs include the extra supplies and the fuel cost, plus the wage of the forklift operator. Leasing forklifts is yet another option, many investors preferring to lease equipment because they get full warranty for the duration of the lease.

Uses Of Crane Equipments

Though all of us have seen construction cranes before, few of us know how they actually work. This is useful base knowledge to have when you’re looking at buying or renting a crane for the purpose of building a building or buildings.

First of all, let’s narrow the field. The construction cranes we’ve all seen are nearly always the kind of crane known as a `tower crane.’ That’s the one with a tall central shaft with a long boom and counterweights. Tower cranes are often built on-site and are even affixed directly to the structure of the building, especially in the construction of very tall buildings like skyscrapers. Take a drive downtown in any growing city and you’ll see tower cranes affixed to the tops of twenty-story office buildings going up. The most common point of affixation for these cranes is the concrete elevator shaft in the center of most buildings, but other points can be used as well if necessary.

Cranes for sale can be put up in different ways. One of the most common, especially with the massive tower cranes used in industrial and large scale commercial building construction, is to use a second crane which is taller and lighter to hoist the crane into position. Some cranes can also self assemble, lifting off the ground with hydraulic jacks so the next section of the tower can be set in place underneath.

Though the more common option is to rent a crane for a specific job, some contractors and construction company owners may find it very useful to actually buy one and use it from construction type to construction site. Again, the internet can be an invaluable tool here, for many reasons. The most obvious is simple things like consumer reviews. Whereas a few years ago it would have been very difficult to talk with other people who’ve used the equipment you’re interested in, the internet today makes that much easier. If you want, you can read consumer reports and customer reviews. You can also get on forums and online construction message boards and talk with other professionals in the trade about what sort of construction equipment you may want to use over the course of a large construction project.

You can also outright shop for big cranes online. Some web sites are designed specifically to sell cranes of all sorts. You can browse not only through tower cranes, but also through vehicle mounted and other kinds of cranes in order to find the best construction crane for your business. Find the right crane company, and you find the best solution for your work site. Online websites can help you compare rates and specs. Some even link directly to consumer reviews of the equipment you’re interested in buying.

As we’ve stated before, the more common route in using construction cranes or tower cranes in construction is to simply rent the best one for the project you’re currently working on. So how do you find where to rent from? How do find someone who just happens to have a few six ton tower cranes on hand to lend to you for a few grand? Simple. Like buying cranes, the easiest way to rent one is to simply look on line. Each crane company, if it’s up to par with modern technological standards, will advertise online and have its own web site for you to check out and compare rates on.

Like buying cranes, you can find more or less any crane for any type of job. The difference, of course, is that you’re only paying per site. So, if your company does a wide and varied range of construction, you’ll probably be better off just renting a crane for specific instances and jobs. If, on the other hand, you specialize in one or another type of construction, you may well be better off just buying the right crane for the job and using it on each site you work at. It’s up to you as contractor - just do your homework before hand and make sure you’re well educated as to crane technology and your options before you make a deal.

The crane industry is designed, obviously, to lift stuff up. The problem is, of course, that there is a lot of stuff out there, and a lot of different ways to actually lift it up. You’ll find very quickly as soon as you start looking that there are a whole lot of construction and crane techniques out there by which any good crane company can learn how to lift something. It’s important to know the exact requirements and specifications of a construction job before you start looking for cranes to do the job by. Don’t forget simple measurements. How tall is the building, and how much taller than that will the crane have to be? Will it be mounted on the ground, or bolted directly to the superstructure of the building you’re trying to raise from the ground?

Depending on the site, there are a lot of things you can do. For relatively small, light loads that don’t require a lot of height, you can probably just use a vehicle based crane. These use several different techniques to lift things off the ground. Some have telescoping crane arms that can extend from a weighted main vehicle body in order to lift relatively small loads. On the other hand, gantry cranes can lift enormous weights, and can be moved around on rails. These are the most commonly used type of crane in shipyards and ports, simply because they can be used and are perfect for lifting cargo onto and off of container barges.

If you’re going to be using a crane on your construction site, you’re going to need people to operate it. For most cranes, that means you - or someone working for you - is going to need a crane operator’s license, or the NCCCO license (National Commission for the Certification Of Crane Operators). Fortunately, there are plenty of places where that certificate can be obtained. The first step, obviously, is to receive the education itself. You can find places willing to train prospective crane operators the same way you can find cranes - by searching online. If you give an employee a crane operator’s license, you’ll be giving them a great new resume asset as well as allowing them to operate your crane for you.

In the end though, all of this really boils down to the same thing. If you’re going to get the best deal in anything - whether that’s renting cranes or buying real estate - the best way to ensure success is a proper education in the field. Knowing the market and the crane industry can make sure that you get the best prices for your time and effort. It can also ensure that you get the right crane for the job - what could be worse than shelling out the money to rent or buy a crane and then find that it won’t work for your project? Researching the crane industry before hand can prevent those kind of problems.

Rent Construction Equipments And Use It Safely

Those who are do-it-yourselfers know that the best and least expensive way to accomplish a task is to pull out the work gloves and get after it. But does that include projects that require construction equipment? There are several things to ask yourself before you decide whether to rent (or buy) construction equipments like excavators, forklifts, wheel loaders, skid steer loaders etc or to call in the pros.

Two of the most important things to consider are cost and size of the project. Have you always wanted a pond? There is really nothing stopping you from building one if you have enough land and there are no zoning laws restricting it. That is going to be a pretty big project and you might be surprised how much earth has to be moved to create even a small pond for watering livestock.

Think you are not qualified to operate construction equipment? You might be right. If you have never operated a bulldozer, you are going to quickly find out that those professionals only make it look easy. There is a lot to learn before you can successfully move dirt the way it is supposed to be moved. But even if you know how to run a bulldozer or other new or used heavy construction equipment, you may not have enough knowledge to put the equipment to proper use.

If you know anything about ponds, you know that just digging a hole is not going to get you a pond that holds water. If you know how to go about the sealing process, whether you should have a drain and how to choose the best place for your pond, you may very well be in a position to rent a bulldozer and build your own pond.

Think you are going to need a series of ponds? In that case, you need to carefully consider how long it will take you to do the digging and get a good estimate for the cost of renting the construction equipment you need for the entire project. Do not overlook transportation fees, especially if you plan to only use the equipment for a few days, send it back and then rent again. Do not overlook your time. If you are taking time off work, figure that into the cost of renting.

Compare that to the cost of hiring someone who owns the construction equipment to get the project completed. If it is a big project, consider purchasing your own construction equipment. After you are done, you can always sell the equipment to regain at least part of your investment.

Whether you are talking about a new or used bulldozer equipment for a major earth-moving project, a Ditch Witch to lay cable or water lines, or a jackhammer to bust up a concrete pad, you may be surprised at how affordable renting construction equipment can be.

A Brief History Of Forklift Technology

Our modern economy has a tendency to take forklifts and forklift truck technology for granted. These heavy equipments were created in the beginning of the 20th century as American was still going through a rapid industrialization post World War 1. Many companies were moving from other industries into the material handling industry. Hyster, for example, started out in the logging industry, but by the 1930s started to shift its focus to the burgeoning materials handling industry and began developing Hyster forklifts.

During and after World War 2, the forklift became a staple of industrialization. They were used during the war to bring supplies to the front lines and were also used to transport military goods from American factories to foreign ports. American warehouses used forklifts and lift trucks to increase productivity and efficiency in their materials handling.

As the decades progressed, so did technology, and increasingly forklifts were going electric. Electric forklifts often provide lower operating costs and tend to be more ecofriendly than gas powered forklift trucks. Electric forklifts have become a standard for businesses that want to compete in today’s international economy.

Forklifts have come a long way from their humble origins. They were originally created by modifying tractors by applying lifts to them, but soon enough they become an entire industry of their own. The advent of electric forklifts is a testament to the ongoing evolution of forklift technology. Many industrial forklifts now utilize rear-wheel steering, increasing the ability of the forklift driver to maneuver in narrow environments.

Since forklifts are so prevalent today, there is a great market for used forklifts. Used forklift equipments provide a business the opportunity to minimize their costs and increase productivity by buying a quality used forklift, rather than paying thousands of dollars more for a new forklift. More and more businesses are turning toward buying used forklifts because buying new forklifts is considerably more expensive.

Hopefully this brief introduction to the history of forklifts and the continuing evolution of forklift technology has taught you a few things and increased your appreciation for this often overlooked tool of modernity. Forklifts will continue to be used by business all over the world and will continue to be an integral part of running a successful business and staying competitive in the increasingly international 21st century.

Get Knowledge About Forklift Safety Videos

It’s so easy to operate and drive a forklift that almost anyone can learn how to drive one very quickly. The forklift is an essential piece of equipment in many places such as factories, construction sites, warehouses, ship yards, etc. That’s because the forklift is highly maneuverable, even in narrow alleys. New or used forklifts for sale are often seen zipping around tight corners, moving heavy boxes or containers, and it’s one of the most efficient way to get things organized.

But unlike cars on the roads, there are no strict set of safety objects like road signs, traffic lights and so on. You can imagine what it could be like if there are many forklifts traveling at high speeds on a ship yard, unloading goods from containers. Certainly, there will be some danger involved, especially during the night.

There are close to a million forklifts in the United States, and according to the OSHA, there are close to thirty five thousand serious injuries each year and an additional sixty thousand not so serious injuries. Every year, there is an estimated eighty five fatalities caused by forklift accidents. With such alarming figures, and such widespread use of this little machine, the need to train personnel working on forklift infested premises is an urgent one.

Actually, many of such accidents can be prevented if proper safety guidelines are observed. But employees are not aware of such safety principles if they are not well trained. For instance, what to look out for when there are pedestrians in the vicinity. Or what should supervisors do when supervising forklifts in operation.

Employers can turn to forklift safety videos to provide adequate training to their employees if necessary. Such videos should point out potentially hazardous situations, what are some of the common mistakes made by employees, and how to correct these mistakes. The better videos should go into detail about forklift mechanisms.

Make understanding the forklifts an essential part of the training. For instance, learn how forklifts are operated, how they move, and so on. Having at least a basic understanding of such new or used heavy equipments, even for those who do not operate them, will help to prevent accidents. Say a pedestrian works in an environment with many forklifts but does not need to drive one himself. However, he is aware that forklifts can swerve suddenly at acute angles and will therefore keep a safe distance in the presence of these forklifts, thus avoiding potential accidents.

So you see, even having the slightest bit of awareness helps. When it comes to safety matters, lives are involved and nothing should be compromised. Invest in a little time to allow and encourage employees to go through the video training sessions and the work place will eventually develop a safety consciousness that has never been there before.

Get Some Knowledge On Heavy Construction Equipments

Heavy construction equipment is used in so many different ways that the need to specialize and customize fork trucks, masonry tools, and skid-steers becomes readily apparent on an almost daily basis.

Forklifts attachments are OSHA compliant heavy construction equipment that transforms used forklifts into loading platforms. Standard safety platforms allow the forklift to reach over obstructions too high for scissor lifts and other new and used heavy construction equipment. They provide much wider platforms than boom lifts and can be elevated more rapidly than scaffold.

New or used skid-steer loaders allow you to customize your loading into a specialized piece of heavy construction equipment. Scoop and mix concrete mixers allow you to scoop up sand and gravel in the bucket position, then rotate for in-place concrete mixing. Hoppers allow you to clear debris from construction sites and landscaping projects. Root grapples and grapple buckets allow landscaping crews to clear and prepare properties for a new look.

You can outfit your forklift or your skid-steer with many types of forks. Forks get damaged to the point that they need to be replaced. Each style is specially designed for the designated purposes. Over the bucket forks allow you to use your skid steer vehicle as a forklift. These are fully forged, one-piece forks, not the kind made of two pieces of steel welded together. Over the bucket forks allow you to use your skid steer vehicle as a forklift. These are fully forged, one-piece forks, not the kind made of two pieces of steel welded together. Another add on for your skid-steer is the fork frame attachment that features bright red fork tips clearly visible for safety reasons, and a heavy duty tapered backstop that keeps the forks from swinging when picking up very heavy or odd sized loads.

Tow/Load/Haul Heavy construction equipment often has to be moved by an individual worker. In order to make this as ergonomically compliant and safe as possible, special tow, load, and hauling tools are strongly recommended, especially when moving heavy construction equipment that is bulky or manufactured with disproportionate dimensions. Load and tows reduce customer wait time, cut labor cost by helping workers get the job done faster with little or no need for overtime, prevent back injury, and reduce damage to equipment. Ramps and steel loaded pins allow for easy and safe transportation via fork truck.
